The King and I

It is 1862 in Siam when an English widow, Anna Leonowens, and her young son arrive at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, having been summoned by the king to serve as tutor to his many children and wives. The king is largely considered to be a barbarian by those in the West and he seeks Anna's assistance in changing his image, if not his ways. With both keeping a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, Anna and the king grow to understand and, eventually, respect one another, in a truly unique love story.

This fairytale tells the story of two sisters who live with their mother in the forest. One cold winter day a bear comes to their house to shelter, and they give him food and drink. Later, in the spring, the girls are in the forest, and they see a dwarf whose beard is stuck under a tree. The girls cut his beard to free him, but he is not grateful. Some days after, they see the dwarf attacked by a large bird and again rescue him. Next, they see the dwarf with treasure. He tells the bear that they are thieves. The bear recognizes the sisters and scares the dwarf away. After hugging the sisters, he turns into a prince. The girls go to his castle, marry the prince and his brother and their mother joins them.

Audience’s can relive the spirit of the Forties in a wonderful evening of Hits from the Blitz, with lots of singalong tunes that will bring back warm memories. The celebration show pay’s tribute to the legendary stars of the war years, Vera Lynn, Donald Peers, Gracie Fields, George Formby, Bing Crosby, and famous comedians, Robb Wilton, Max Miller, and Tessie O’Shea. The show is set in a wartime Garrison Theatre with the ENSA artistes.
